The latest Coingrader Capsule shares the results of submitting a group of potential DMPL Morgan Dollars to both PCGS and NGC.
More than two dozen coin related bills have been introduced in Congress. Here is a summary on Mint News Blog.
Coin Collector’s Blog begins with a discussion of the only US Mint coin that contained no copper to lead to a discussion of the bills introduced seeking to change the primary composition of the cent and nickel to steel.
President Theodore’s original letter which led to the renaissance of American coinage design has surfaced. He had referred to existing coinage as “artistically of atrocious hideousness”.
From someone who has some personal history with the dollar coin, cost savings only materialize “if the dollar coin is a substitute rather than an addition to the bill.”

Effective today, the US Mint has reduced the prices for numismatic ATB Five Ounce Silver Coins and the 2011-W Uncirculated Silver Eagle. The price of annual sets with silver content remains unchanged.
And now for some notable auctions. First, a large grouping of proof silver eagles and commemorative silver dollars.
Next, the 1950 Proof Franklin Half Dollar graded NGC PF 67. Although the series began in 1948, this was the first proof issue and the lowest mintage proof.
Last, a collection of South Carolina State Quarter Mint Errors. The coins are in a multi-coin NGC holder and include triple struck, off center, curved clip, and blank planchet.
